IB Math and Physics teacher Jon Moreno-Ramirez, was recently recognized by our local community as an Innovative Educator who makes a difference in the lives of Riverstone students, and who nurtures his passion for math and physics through continuing education. Please see this recognition piece and profile on Boise’s KTVB Channel 7.

Jon’s commitment to his students is unwavering, whether teaching math and physics, coaching our robotics team, the Otterbots, or playing music with students in a band. His teaching philosophy is based on making connections with all of his students – a common theme among Riverstone International School teachers – and building trust.

His passion for math goes back to his childhood when Jon and his family moved to the U.S. from Mexico when he was 10 years old. “I didn’t speak any English,” he said. “The only class I was good at was math. So that was kind of like my comfort zone when I first got here.” Professionally, before coming to work at Riverstone International School, Jon taught school in Venezuela, making him international in a second way.

“Being international and English being my second language I do have a lot of students who are here from different countries, and so I can relate to them,” Moreno-Ramirez said. “Making those connections is easier for me.”

Finally, Jon recently won a $15,000 Partners in Science Program grant. Through that, he has spent the last two summers doing research in the Boise State Physics Lab and uses that learning to translate for students and “start to model what their labs are going to look like in college and beyond.”
