Join us for a series of exciting events in support of The Riverstone Fund, designed to strengthen our community and celebrate our shared commitment to Riverstone’s mission. We are incredibly grateful to our five host families for opening their homes for social gatherings, offering a welcoming space for meaningful conversations and connection. These socials, organized by last name but flexible for all, provide an opportunity for families—new, current, and alumni—to engage with one another and see the impact of their support. Beyond these gatherings, we have two additional events to look forward to: the Glow for Riverstone CycleBar Ride, an energizing way to give back, and a Paint and Sip night with Middle School Faculty member Amber Tooker for a creative and fun evening. We hope to see many of you at these events as we come together to make this year’s Riverstone Fund a success. Thank you for your support!
Meet The Coyle’s - Event Coyle/Simmonds Tuesday, March 11, 2025
Riverstone has been an extraordinary part of our family’s journey for the past eleven years, shaping our three boys into confident, engaged, and lifelong learners. Our graduates, Jackson ’19 (Bowdoin) and Walker ’21 (Middlebury), thrived in college thanks to the inspiring relationships they built with their Riverstone teachers—educators who instilled in them the value of learning through hard work, communication, and community. Our youngest son, Brooks, now a junior, is forging his own path, using his passions, confidence, and energy to make a meaningful impact in and beyond the classroom.
We believe Riverstone is unique, not only for its exceptional academics but also for its unparalleled outdoor program, which has given our boys a profound sense of exploration, resilience, and independence. Through backcountry trips and leadership experiences in nature, they’ve gained confidence and perspectives that extend far beyond the classroom. This spirit of adventure and a world-class education have prepared them for academic and personal success. We support Riverstone because it has given our family the invaluable gifts of curiosity, independence, and community—all within an environment that nurtures learning in every sense of the word, both inside and outside the classroom, while fostering lifelong connections with friends and teachers.
Meet The Simmonds’ - Event Coyle/Simmonds Tuesday, March 11, 2025
We’re the Simmonds Clan—Marshall, Tabatha, Aidan, and Lily—and for the last 14 years, Riverstone has been our second home. Now, as we pack our bags and gear up to leave the school that’s molded us in so many ways, we’re hit with that sweet mix of gratitude, pride, and just a little heartbreak.
Riverstone isn’t cheap. It’s an investment—of time, money, and sheer brainpower. But wow, has it paid off! Aidan’s now a thriving (freezing) sophomore at Colby College, Lily’s about to rock it at Tufts, and both of them are exactly the kind of young humans we hoped they’d become: confident, bilingual, sharp thinkers, and not afraid to jump into the world.
We’ve seen them grow from the Shakespeare 2nd grade performance to the challenges of the IB Diploma tests, and now we get it: IB isn’t just a fancy acronym. It’s the reason our kids can tackle big ideas, study abroad, lead a discussion, a club or a team, and most importantly speak up when it matters. Riverstone’s been the backdrop to so many moments—friendships that feel more like family and staff who’ve cheered us on every step of the way.
Now it’s that time of year to acknowledge the work, effort and future. We’re inviting you to a fundraising dinner—your chance to help keep the Riverstone magic alive. Think of it as paying forward the experiences and opportunities that shaped all our kids (and so many others).
Join us. Support the school. And help tomorrow’s Riverstone grads become the next generation of changemakers.
Meet The Perl’s - Thursday, April 3, 2025
After the Perl Family moved to Boise in 2010, from Minneapolis, Nicole joined Riverstone that fall in the kindergarten. Julia started preschool the following fall. Both girls have made strong connections at Riverstone, and our family is grateful to have enjoyed many years here. Nicole graduated from Riverstone in 2023 and is currently a sophomore at UNC Chapel Hill studying Data Science and Environmental Studies. We miss her tons, but her time at Riverstone has her well prepared for college. Julia is a junior in the DP Program acquiring skills for the future, and enjoys playing for the volleyball team. Both their academic and social experiences at Riverstone has them well poised for the challenges ahead. We are so happy to host you all at our home for the annual fund!
Meet The Sears’ - Thursday, April 17, 2025
We are The Sears - for us, it’s important that our kids remain curious about themselves, others, and the world. We chose Riverstone to foster this curiosity because the process of learning is as important there as the product. Riverstone has helped our girls learn how to learn, not just give rote answers in service to a standardized test. Yes, the curriculum is rigorous, and we expect it will serve them well in their academic career. But just as important for us is the joy they are finding in learning, which is just another way to say “curious”. With so many technological, scientific, political and cultural changes happening every day, our girls’ ability to adapt will be a great asset as they become adults. Riverstone supports this adaptability by asking them to approach topics and problems from different perspectives, using different methods. For example, they are just as likely to learn how to start a fire and protect themselves in wintry conditions in the Outdoor Program, as they are to learn the laws of thermodynamics and the biology of mammals in their science class. Or, they may be asked to construct, edit, and publish lengthy written essays analyzing the themes of Greek myths or The Book Thief in their morning humanities classes, and then construct and evaluate the relative effectiveness of a trebuchet versus a catapult in their design technology and math classes in the afternoon. It is this diversity of perspective and learning style that teaches them to be comfortable not only in areas or methods they thrive in, but also in those new or challenging for them.
Meet The Otter’s - Tuesday, April 22, 2025
When John and I decided to move to Boise (or back to Boise in John's case) almost 8 years ago, we spent a lot of time thinking about where are children, then 3, 1 and very pregnant, would go to school. After talking to a lot of people and visiting many local schools, we decided on Riverstone. I loved the IB and academic program and John loved the Outdoors Programs so it had a little bit of something for both of us. To that end, Riverstone has met our expectations and more. Jackson started in Pre-K and both Harriett and Beatrice started in Preschool. The academic program has been great pushing our kids when they need to be pushed and supporting them when they need extra help. To date, our favorite year has been the 2nd grade unit of inquiries from the Egyptians and the Greeks to the bones and the body and of course the marketplace and learning about supply and demand. The outdoor programs have not disappointed either. We have volunteered on overnights and done day trips through Elementary, and we are looking forward to the amazing trips in Middle and High School as Jackson enters Middle School next year. It was the academics and the outdoor program that drew us in but it has been the community that has caused us to stay. The families that we have met and grown up with have been remarkable. They are people that we know we can call on for support whether it is picking a kid up from school or doing sports together or chasing our chicken back in off the road. This is a community of people that are vested in our family and our families success and that is why we think it is so important to support Riverstone and the Riverstone Fund. The Riverstone Fund will allow the school to bolster what is already great but also add new programs and support where we need it. We hope you will join us in supporting this gem of a school and we look forward to seeing you at school.
