On the last day before winter break, the Grade 8 students raised $238 for The Range of Motion Project (ROMP) by designing and printing stickers in collaboration with Stickers Northwest, who generously volunteered their time and donated the final products.

We often take our mobility for granted, so the students in Grade 8 went for a hike in late November with the intention of acknowledging our mobility and how others don’t have that ability. We watched a video about disabled hikers who climbed Mount Cotopaxi (with ROMP) and read a few articles about ableism.

We then decided to make stickers, using phrases from other languages in our community (translated by members in our community). After a review process including administration, fellow teachers and Elise from Stickers Northwest, we decided the four following stickers were the best options to print and sell. One is a Mandarin Chinese quote illustrated by Grace Chen and translated by Meichun Lin. Another is a Korean quote translated by Brett Lofgren’s class in Korea– Mr. Lofgren

then put that translation into an Artificial Intelligence art algorithm (Midjourney) to produce the image. A third is a Scandinavian quote translated from Norwegian by Andy Johson and the final quote is from Paulo Coelho and translate by Gerardo Flores Pacheco (both illustrated by Stickers Northwest). Special thanks also goes to Riverstone International School who donated pizzas to sell in addition to our stickers.

This was a great learning experience for everyone involved! We still have stickers available, so please reach out to Brett Lofgren if you would like to purchase one ($3 for one, two for $5). 100% of the proceeds go to support those with missing limbs in Guatemala and Honduras.
