Last Friday, Grade 7 students set up an autofeed/wicking system for our two new ficus trees in the Elementary School that have been struggling in the past couple of weeks with watering issues. Cathy Wilson, parent/plant geneticist/Manager of Flora Company, came out to guide the students through the process, with lots of discussion about which light spectrum plants need, what requirements plants need to flourish, and how wicking occurs. Cathy commented to Science teacher, John Pedersen, that she was impressed with how well the students were able to respond to her questions regarding their botany unit that they just wrapped up.
Thanks to Cathy’s help and our students’ efforts, our ficus trees will hopefully be perking up soon!
