Children love sensory play. Here is a fun activity that our students enjoyed so much this week. This activity helps them to explore texture, sound, scent and more.

We decided to share the recipe with you so you can make it at home. It is very easy.

Sensory play keeps them busy, entertained and most importantly, it is very beneficial for them. Five reasons why sensory play helps children with their development are:

  1. Research shows that sensory play builds nerve connections in the brain’s pathways, which leads to the child’s ability to complete more complex learning tasks.
  2. Sensory play supports language development, cognitive growth, fine and gross motor skills, problem solving skills, and social interaction.
  3. This type of play aids in developing and enhancing memory
  4. Sensory play is great for calming an anxious or frustrated child
  5. This helps children learn sensory attributes (hot, cold, sticky, dry)

To do this activity at home, you will need water, flour, salt and sealable plastic bags, preferably quart-sized freezer bags because they are thicker and hold liquid better.

In a bowl, mix 1/4 cup of water, 1/4 cup flour, and 1/4 cup of salt. When done, add the mixture to the freezer bag. To make the mixture more attractive, you can add some food coloring.

And last but not least, let the fun begin!
