Grade 7 French is working on an interdisciplinary unit, le Tour de France, which seamlessly combines geography and sport with Physical Education and French. As competitive cyclists race around France, they compete on varied terrains of flat land, medium mountains, and high mountains. During this unit, our students will research and present their findings on a region in France that follows the 2011 route of the Tour de France and a sport that is prevalent there. Students will also design maillots (jerseys) which demonstrate their reflection on the unit’s significant concept, “Our environment influences our outdoor activities.”

To kick off the conversation, Eric Selekof, PE teacher and Athletics Co-Director, shared his vast knowledge of the Tour through an interactive presentation. Eric was integral in developing the unit along with our French teacher, Fiona Spence.

This unit is an excellent example of how the MYP curriculum provides opportunities that allow students to see the connections among all subjects they are studying. Très bien!
