On Thursday, April 9, 2009 Zoo Boise welcomed world-renowned primatologist Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE, Founder of the Jane Goodall Institute, and UN Messenger of Peace. Several Riverstone students were in attendance, as well as students from Riverstones Roots and Shoots Club (a JGI sponsored group) to hear Dr. Goodalls message of hope and peace. Roots and Shoots members were asked to make peace dove puppets to welcome Dr. Goodall.

Upon arriving at Qwest arena, members of the Roots and Shoots Club were informed that a German film crew was filming a documentary and would like four students to carry a peace dove across the floor during Dr. Goodalls lecture. The four students chosen for this were: Casey DeBoer, Becca Quick, Parker Thorton, and Lucas Macha. They carried the dove across the floor while Dr. Goodall spoke about her experiences as a UN messenger of Peace.

After the lecture, Dr. Goodall had a book signing where the students were able to speak with her for a brief moment. A picture was taken by the Jane Goodall Institute and can be viewed at www.janegoodall.org/tour-photos

some students waited as long as two and a half hours to get her signature. After the signing, the four students who carried the peace dove, along with Mr. Pedersen, were interviewed by the director for the documentary. Some or all of the footage may be used in the film It was an inspiring night of hope for all those in attendance.
