During the past week, Ms. Pierie’s Kindergarten class has been watching the incubator with chicken eggs in their classroom with a great deal of patience, awaiting the chicks eventual appearance. The first one hatched on Monday, four more on Tuesday, and another four on Wednesday! According to Ms. Pierie, when asked what the chicks needed when they hatched, “the children quickly figured out that baby chicks need food, water, warmth, sleep, space, and loving.” As you can see by the pictures, the kindergarteners are doing a great job of taking care of the baby chicks!

The baby chicks are part of their Unit of Inquiry, Sharing the Planet, in which they are learning about being good stewards of the Earth, including all of its creatures.
