Grade 3 Sharing the Planet

Grade 3 students spent four days last week getting their hands wet with real-world, inquiry-based activities related to the water cycle at the Y-Camp at Horsethief Reservoir. During their Spring Trip, the students took advantage of this in-depth learning experience related to their current Unit of Inquiry by studying and exploring the reservoir, conducting experiments with solar stills and transpiration bags, making (and eating!) edible aquifers, and collecting and identifying macro-invertebrae to determine healthy streams. They also built models of watersheds on the shores of the reservoir while hiking many, many miles! They came home with a clear understanding that water is a finite resource with infinite demands, and we all have a role to play as we share our planet.

Thank you to our hosts at Y-Camp, our fabulous parent volunteers, James Hamilton, and our teachers, Sally Stewart, Joanne Sours, and Debbi Wallace for making this trip so much fun. This was Sally’s 16th Riverstone Spring Trip!
