How many students attend Riverstone?
Our Elementary School includes approximately 160 students from preschool through grade 5. Approximately 330 students attend Riverstone International School from preschool through high school. We believe that as a small school we can best meet our mission and the needs of our students.
How big are the classes in the Elementary School?
One of the keys to having engaging academics and strong student-teacher relationships is the personal attention that only a small class with an outstanding teacher can provide. Riverstone enrolls students each year in all grades, preschool – grade 12.
In Elementary School (preschool – grade 5) there are typically between 12 and 16 students in each class.
- Preschool: 16 students with 1 teacher and 1 teacher aide
- Pre-Kindergarten: 18 students with 2 teachers
- Kindergarten – grade 2: up to 18 students
- Grade 3 – grade 5: up to 20 students
How young is too young to investigate preschool at Riverstone?
It’s never too early to talk with our Admissions office about our preschool program! Often times, parents start investigating Riverstone when their child is just turning two and is one year from starting preschool. Please remember that our preschool program is for children who are 3 years of age by September 1 and fully toilet-trained.
Do you offer art and music?
Yes. As part of their weekly schedule, Elementary students are taught by subject area specialist teachers for art, music, and PE two times per week. A second language is taught 4 days per week. All of Riverstone’s Elementary School teachers are certified and experienced.
What kind of school is Riverstone?
Riverstone is an independent day school, which serves approximately 325 students in preschool through grade 12. Our mission is to inspire courageous journeys of academic and personal exploration that enable our students to lead purposeful lives.
Aren’t all IB schools the same?
No. Although all authorized International Baccalaureate World Schools are committed to a common philosophy, every school develops their own curriculum and establishes their own priorities. Experience, resources for activities and field trips, and class size impact the ability to which a school can fully embrace the philosophy of the IB programes.
Riverstone International School was Idaho’s first IB World School.
Does Riverstone offer scholarships or tuition assistance?
Yes! We strive to make Riverstone as accessible to families as possible and currently, about 20% of our families receive tuition assistance. Additionally, students entering grades 7-9 who are U.S. citizens may apply for Malone Family Foundation Scholarships. Most importantly, tuition assistance and scholarships do not need to be repaid. Does Riverstone provide transportation?
Parents may sign their students up for our fee-based, morning-only bus service from Boise’s north end area. Please read more about Riverstone’s bus service, including ValleyRide’s bus service.
Does Riverstone offer before- or after-school care?
Do you have sports teams in the Elementary School?
We generally offer after-school activities for several sports, which may include soccer, basketball, volleyball, and lacrosse. These activities are led with the assistance of our athletic leadership students.
Do Riverstone students wear uniforms?
No, Riverstone students do not wear uniforms. However, as an International Baccalaureate World School, Riverstone places a high level of importance on international understanding and cultural sensitivity. Students and staff should dress in a respectful manner that would not be considered offensive to other members of the community.
