I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for Ice Cream

By | Community & Service, Parents' Association | No Comments

Many thanks to our Parents’ Association for kicking off the new year with the Second Annual Ice Cream Social last Friday! Giving us all a (delicious) reason to spend a few extra minutes together, reconnect, and meet new friends in the beautiful sunshine was just another way that the PA builds and strengthens our community.

The Parents’ Association is always looking for fresh ideas and more parents to be involved. Check the PA page on our website and contact any member of the leadership team to get involved!

Rebels, Rockers and Betty Crockers

The final numbers are still being tallied but Riverstone’s auctions are always about so much more than just fundraising! We have a wonderful time celebrating together. With a great theme, fantastic decor, fun outfits, cool items to bid on, a live auction composed solely of items donated by the Riverstone community, and an auction committee who worked tirelessly on our behalf, it was one of the best Riverstone auctions ever!

Special thanks to Kim Liebich and Theresa Eckersell, our auction chairpersons, and the auction committee for sharing your time and talents with us. You rock!

Thank you also to Heather Webster for sharing her wonderful photos of the evening.

Cakes, caramel apples, and cotton candy. Conversations and community. The Climbing Wall, Dunk Tank, Jousting Platform, and The Orbitor!  What more could you ask for in a Fall Carnival?

Thanks to our Fall Carnival Committee, parents volunteers, and student volunteers for all your time and energy organizing this wonderful Riverstone family tradition. Many thanks to Heather Webster for sharing her photos!

Getting Ready for a New Year

By | Academic Excellence, Parents' Association, Teachers & Staff | No Comments

Getting ready for the first day of school is always an exciting time. Teachers are meeting to collaborate on curriculum, learn new technology skills, and prepare their classrooms, among a long list of other things. It’s a time of high energy and excitement that reminds us all of why we love working together.

Yesterday, the multi-purpose room was put to good use while staff were certified in CPR and First Aid. At the end of the day, the room was re-invented when the Parents’ Association treated everyone to a visit from the taco truck! Now that was the way to start the year!

Many thanks to our teachers and staff for all their efforts preparing for our students’ arrival on Monday. And we are grateful to the Parents’ Association for the good food and good fun!

Meet the Seniors

By | Academic Excellence, College Placement, Parents' Association | No Comments

Thank you to the Parents’ Association for hosting this year’s Meet the Seniors! The seniors shared where they are going to college, what their IB Extended Essay topics were, what their favorite aspects of Riverstone were, how they navigated the college application process, and gave advice for the younger high school students.  Universally, our students thanked their teachers for their support and guidance.

Next up for our seniors: IB exams. Good luck!

Family Reading Night at the Book Fair

By | Community & Service, Parents' Association | No Comments

The Parents’ Association combined efforts with the Book Fair team to create a one-of-a-kind Riverstone event, Family Reading Night, last week. Staff, parents, and students read their favorite books to guests of all ages who came in their jammies with pillows and blankets. As an extra activity, our Grade 2 spearheaded efforts to make bookmarks and collect books for the patients at St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital.

Thanks to the Parents’ Association and Book Fair team for working their magic and also to Heather Webster for the great photos!

To the Book Fair and Beyond!

By | Leadership by Example, Parents' Association | No Comments

Grade 6 students shared their love of reading with our Grade 1 students at the Book Fair today. The older students helped the younger students shop and make wish lists, shared their recommendations for good books, and then read to the younger the kids. It was great fun watching them together. I don’t know who had more fun!

The Book Fair ends on Friday, December 9 so stop in soon. Online orders may be made from the Scholastic website through Thursday, December 8. All proceeds will benefit the school library and classrooms to enhance the IB curriculum.

Thanks so much to our Book Fair Committee, led by Kristin Barstad, and the many parents who have volunteered their time to ensure that this year’s Book Fair is out of this world! (Sorry…couldn’t resist!)
